GUIDANCE PHILOSOPHY

Every student has a right to an education. All students are entitled to the same guidance program in the school setting. Every student can learn based on an appropriate learning style tailored to the student's needs. Identifiable needs of a student should be addressed and services provided through intervention, prevention, and proactive education measures.

GUIDANCE MISSION

To prepare students to become skilled productive citizens in this information based technology society.

DOMAINS AND GOALS

  • To improve the school's standardized test scores and promote test taking strategies and skills.
  • Increase the number of students taking the ACT assessment.
  • Promote job training skills for all students.
  • Improve interpersonal and social student skills.

GUIDANCE CURRICULUM

Guidance lessons are based on student's needs. Guidance lessons are based on academic improvement, career planning and improving personal/social relationships to prepare for interactive and successful adjustments in society. Guidance lessons and activities should reflect the mission statement and the goals of the guidance program.

INDIVIDUAL STUDENT PLANNING
The counselor meets with each student to address their academic program needs. The counselor identifies the student's goals along with the student and its' adherence.

RESPONSIVE SERVICES
The counseling program involves providing academic counseling, in house and out of house referrals when needed. The use of consultation with parents, staff and administrators are a daily part of the counseling program.

SYSTEM SUPPORT
The counseling program promotes collaborating with staff, administrators and community. This would take place by informing staff, administrators and parents with announcements, written communications and information counselors receive from professional development workshops.

GUIDANCE MANAGEMENT SYSTEM
Counselors and administrators agree on student caseloads. Support staff meets weekly to share and discuss any concerns, services and information relative to student success.

DATA AND STUDENT MONITORING
All school site student data is utilized for student improvement (test scores, attendance, academic grades etc.) Data is used to develop future goals, mission and student services.

ACTION PLANS
The counselor develops the guidance program/lessons to meet the needs of the student through classroom presentations, small and large groups, parent sessions as well as individual counseling services.

USE OF CALENDER
The calender is used to inform school site personnel as well as supervisors with the weekly and monthly intent of the guidance program. Flyers and announcements are utilized as well.

ACCOUNTABILITY
File folders, student, parent and visitor logs of all guidance activities for review.

EVALUATION
Evidence would show attempts to meet the mission statement and goals of the guidance program.
