Uniforms and Dress Code

The way a student dresses reflects his/her attitude toward school and class work. Students are expected to be neat, clean, and fully dressed in good taste at all times, and in a manner that will not distract from the educational process. Students are expected to be responsible in their dress and grooming by avoiding extremes and manifesting self discipline with regard to their appearance. For health and safety reasons, students must wear closed back and closed toe shoes to school.

The school principal will inform students, parents and community of the school approved uniform policy. All students are expected to follow this policy. Student dress and appearance that disrupt a positive school environment may result in the student being required to change into appropriate attire. The principal of each school shall make the final decision as to what is considered appropriate attire.

Students are not permitted to wear head apparel, such as hats, scarves, or bandanas in the building/gymnasium at any time. The RSD prohibits the presence of any apparel, jewelry, accessory, notebook or manner of grooming which, by virtue of its color, arrangement, trademark, or any other attribute, denotes membership in a gang.

Procedures for Correcting Inappropriate  Attire:

If the inappropriate attire cannot be corrected immediately, staff will take the following steps:

1st Occurrence: The student will be returned to class with a letter of reminder regarding inappropriate attire to the parent/legal guardian from the principal or designee to be signed and returned the following day.

2nd Occurrence: The student will be returned to class with a letter of reminder regarding inappropriate attire and parent/legal guardian is called in for a conference with teacher or other school personnel. The teacher or other school personnel will determine if the school social work specialist is needed to assist the child in obtaining a uniform.

3rd and Subsequent Occurrence: The student will be returned to class with a letter of reminder regarding inappropriate attire, and parent/legal guardian is called in for a conference with teacher and/or other school personnel. The student will attend an after school on-site detention.
